Fox Chapel Golf Club is the premier family club in Pittsburgh and one of the finest in the nation. We are a traditional private, non-equity golf and country club. New members are welcome.
Our historic Brandon Smith and Alden/Harlow Clubhouse is a registered architectural landmark. The Clubhouse offers a wide selection of elegant and comfortable spaces that make a distinctive backdrop for hosting a variety of events, activities, and special occasions. The Club completed a major improvement project in 2016 to bring our facilities up to the standards and needs of our modern membership. The project included the addition of adult casual and family dining rooms, golf course renovations, a new Ladies’ Locker Room, an expanded Golf Shop, an improved golf entrance, an updated kitchen and the addition of fitness facilities with a view over the golf course. Most recently, renovations were completed on the tennis courts and pool changing facilities.
Complementing the efforts of Chef Joey Orosz and his culinary team is the Club’s Staff, which maintains the highest standard of service in all of the Club’s formal, casual and outdoor settings.
Fox Chapel Golf Club has been awarded the prestigious Distinguished Club award for the third year, as determined by the annual Distinguished Clubs award program conducted by BoardRoom magazine. To be a Distinguished Club is to be one of only a few, highly select private clubs that are recognized as providing a Member Experience at a level attained by only the finest clubs in the world. The Member Experience is defined by the quality of the facility and the intangible qualities that include the club’s culture, history, traditions, image, governance and the feeling that members sense when they come to the club… the feeling that makes them feel part of a family and proud to be a member. The club has also been recognized with the special “ELITE” designation since it exceeded certain additional criteria during the audit and site visit.
The restoration of our Seth Raynor 18-Hole golf course was completed in 2020. The restoration included building 97 new bunkers to shapes as seen on the original 1923 course; sand lines, mowing lines, green shapes, fairway widths were restored to Mr. Raynor’s original design; signature greens were restored; 12 new forward tees added; several back tees were pushed further back to lengthen the course. The golf course is consistently ranked among the Top 100 Best Classic Courses in by Golfweek Magazine, Top 10 Courses in Pennsylvania by LINKSmagazine, Golfweek’s Best 2020 Private Courses State by State, The Best Golf Courses in Pennsylvania by Golf Digest, The Top 10 Seth Raynor Courses by LINKSmagazine.com, and in The 100 Most Prestigious Golf Clubs in the world by Links Magazine. The course offers a challenging layout at 6,696 yards, and its distinctive elevated, multi-tiered greens require golfers of all levels to play unique and imaginative shots. The championship layout served as host of the 2002 Curtis Cup and the 2012, 2013, and 2014 Senior Players Championships. Head Golf Professional, Alex Childs, and his team of teaching pros nurture all levels of players, including one of the most active junior programs in Pittsburgh. As one of the most walkable championship courses in Western Pennsylvania, we are able to maintain a vibrant caddie program, and our small membership means almost always being able to get a tee time that meets your schedule.
The Swimming Pool area features a heated L-shaped pool and baby pool, as well as a playground that provides hours of fun for the little ones. The Snack Stand is full-service and serves lunch and dinner daily, including a great “Family Night” buffet on Wednesday nights, and the lifeguards oversee an enthusiastic youth swimming program with a full slate of meets against other clubs in the area. The Junior Sports Adventure offers a fun-filled week of professional instruction in golf, tennis and swimming to children ages 6 through 12.
During the summer months, the energy abounds on the six Har-Tru tennis courts and two pickleball courts. Craig Perry and his professional tennis staff are considered among the best in the region, balancing private lessons, clinics and inter-club league competitions to address the needs of members of all ages and levels from tiny tots to highly-ranked college players and seniors.
In addition to the summer activities, we offer four platform tennis courts where men, women and juniors participate in clinics and inter-club competitions. Our beautiful Shooting Lodge and newly renovated facilities welcome guns of all levels to participate in straight trap, sub-trap and international trap events in both Member and inter-club competitions.
But what sets Fox Chapel Golf Club apart is its focus on family. While rich in tradition, Fox Chapel is a Club that has not only recognized but embraced the fact that a truly elite Club must today serve the diverse needs of its Member families in such a way that each member of that family has the same sense of “belonging.” Fox Chapel isn’t just a place where every member of your family will want to spend time; it’s a place where everyone will want to spend time together.
